Introducing the newest ENFIT e.V. guideline, the first international guideline of its kind: "Food Safety in the Supply Chain – Transport of Unpacked Raw Materials and Food in Transport Containers”.
The aim of ENFIT is to internationally improve food safety and reduce costly product recalls and protect the consumer. With this new guideline we will be able to better support raw material and food producers in protecting their companies and products from contamination and cross-contamination that can result, for example, from viruses, prions, mycotoxins, molds, allergens, GMOs, chemicals or foreign materials (plastic, glass, metal, etc.).
58 participants from different European and international companies – including Mondelez, Mars, Cargill, Barry Callebaut, Dr. Oetker, Südzucker, Nordic Sugar, Interfood, EHEDG, Recall InfoLink, and other logistics companies, cleaning station operators and certification companies – worked together on creating this guideline.
More than 700 copies of the guideline have already been sent out per request with recipients of the guideline widely spread across the globe. Companies from countries such as: Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Greece, Belarus, Ukraine, Macedonia, England, Pakistan, Iran, Morocco, South Africa, Nigeria, Brazil, Egypt, Malaysia, Philippines, Canada, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, India, Sri Lanka, the United States, Mexico, Chile, Kuwait, and Singapore – to name a few – have already reviewed the guideline and provided very positive feedback.
While the guideline consists of almost 200 pages, quality managers have ascertained that it is very easy to follow due to its many pictures and practical examples that help illustrate critical areas in the transport of unpackaged raw materials and food. Key practical solutions to reduce risk that are easy to implement are also included in the guideline.
Topics in the guideline range from the loading, unloading, food suitability testing and the cleaning and disinfection of transport containers (including cleaning processes and cleaning programs), to ENFIT cleaning certificates (ECC-ENFIT CLEANING CERTIFICATE ®), traceability of previous products (including fulfilling various requirements in regards to allergens, GMOs and halal/kosher certification ), food defense and the use of digital/tamper-free security seals, as well as the digital tracing of all processes in the supply chain (with the bulkvision software).
